I may be working with a gentleman who came to the UK from Vietnam. He doesn't seem to have any friends from Vietnam. Is there any support that this man could access? I work in Leeds. I have tried phoning the Leeds Vietnamese Community Association but the number does not seem to work. Any help would be gratefully accepted, thank you.

I understand he came here in the 80s. I don't have a lot of information but wanted to help him connect with the community, which he doesn't do at present.

Hi Ian,
Ive been working with many people like the gentleman like you said, unfortunately there is no proper Vietnamese charity community around Leeds area. The only place i could think of is a Vietnamese temple in Birmingham, i guess there are lots of people with the same background like him who he could speak Vietnamese with. I understand that its extremely lonely for many old Vietnamese people who live in care home or social housing. The thing that gentleman need is someone he can talk, he doesn't need an interpreter.
You could try to take him to a Vietnamese restaurant in Leeds, there is also a Vietnamese supermarket nearby. I know a few students in Leeds, Bradford..but im not sure it will work since the generation gap is so big, i could try to contact them and see if they could help the gentleman with anything.
Could you please leave your email address here, i would try to find people who i think could help from my own network and ask them to contact you.
